Tattoo Peeling Day 4

Your tattoo is healing and peeling. It is normal and natural. Here are some tips to follow.

Keep It Moisturized

  • Your skin needs to stay hydrated while your tattoo heals.
  • Moisturizing your tattoo will help it heal faster and better.
  • It will also soothe your skin and prevent irritation.
  • And it will keep your tattoo colours bright and beautiful.
  • Use a small amount of A&D ointment or a particular tattoo-healing product.
  • Massage it gently into your skin.
  • Don’t use too much; you will smother your tattoo and trap moisture under it.
  • Avoid water and sweat as much as possible.
  • They can wash out the ink from your tattoo before it sets in.
  • Keep your showers short and mild.

Don’t Sunburn

  • Sunlight can damage your new tattoo and slow down its healing.
  • It can also fade the colours and make them look dull.
  • Your tattoo will peel like sunburned skin as it heals.
  • This is how your body removes the dead skin cells on top of your tattoo.
  • But it may take longer for more extensive or more colourful tattoos.
  • Don’t pick at the peeling skin; you will hurt your tattoo and cause infection.
  • Let it fall off naturally and gently.
  • Protect your tattoo from the sun and dirt while it heals.
  • Cover it with clothing or sunscreen when you go outside.
  • Keep it clean and dry when you are indoors.

Don’t Scrub

  • Scrubbing your tattoo can irritate and make it peel more than necessary.
  • It can also remove the ink from your tattoo and make it look patchy or faded.
  • Instead of scrubbing, use a soft towel to pat your tattoo dry after washing it.
  • Choose a towel that is made of cotton or other natural fibres.
  • They are more gentle and effective than synthetic towels.
  • You can also use a moisturizer or serum designed for tattoos.

Don’t Pull Off Scabs

  • Scabs are a sign that your tattoo is healing well.
  • They form a protective layer over your tattoo to remove germs and dirt.
  • They also hold the ink while your skin heals underneath them.
  • When your scabs are ready, they will flake off by themselves.
  • This may look scary, but it is normal and good for your tattoo.
  • Don’t pull or pick at your scabs; you will risk scarring and infection.
  • You will also lose some of the ink from your tattoo and create gaps or holes in it.
  • Touching or scratching your peeling tattoo can push the ink out or cause inflammation.
