Washable Tattoos

Temporary tattoos offer a fun and exciting way to express body art. These designs include backing paper, silicone release coating, and transfer film that helps the image stick to the skin.

Water Slide Paper

Water slide paper, or water transfer paper, allows you to create washable tattoos. It’s an ideal option if you want to experiment with designs before committing to permanent ones. You’ll need a few supplies to create a washable tattoo using water slide paper. Depending on the surface, like a mug, you may need to apply a layer of spray sealer before attaching the tattoo. Carefully position the selected tattoo on the item, ensuring accuracy. If using water-slide decal paper on wood surfaces, clean them with alcohol to ensure proper adhesion.

Designing

Washable tattoos can be designed in various ways. Some designers prefer sketching their ideas on paper before applying them to the skin, while others use digital applications like Adobe Illustrator. Before printing, reverse the designs on your printer to appear correctly on the skin. Adjust line weights in your layout using Illustrator’s Select Same tool for a consistent look. You can also create stencils using permanent markers or black pens to control the shape and realism of your tattoo design.

Applying

Before applying temporary tattoos, ensure your skin is free from makeup, sunscreen, or other products that could interfere with their adhesive nature. Once your skin is clean and dry, place the tattoo design face down on it and press firmly with a damp cloth for several seconds to transfer the image. Please wait for it to dry before peeling away the paper backing. The dampening process helps the water slide paper adhere to your skin, ensuring the image stays in place even after washing. Hairspray can also enhance the performance of washable tattoos, protecting weather elements, smudges, scratches, and UV rays.

Removing

Temporary tattoos are a fun and affordable way to experiment with body art for special events. However, removing washable tattoos can be tricky. Before showering or swimming, finding the most efficient removal method is essential. Soak a washcloth in baby oil to break down the ink and adhesive layers, making it easier to peel off the tattoo. Applying a cold cream product over the tattoo for at least an hour allows it to penetrate the skin, simplifying wiping it off with a towel.
