What to Do After a Tattoo Wrap

Tattoo wrap protects new tattoos from infection and bumps during the healing process. Here’s what you need to know:

Wrapping Time

After getting a fresh tattoo, it should be treated like an open wound. Use a professional-grade tattoo film or plastic foil to cover the tattoo and prevent infection. Choose a wrap that offers protection against germs and allows airflow. Wrapping the tattoo, especially if it might contact bedsheets during sleep, is recommended. To ensure optimal healing, rinse the tattoo area with warm water and gentle, antibacterial soap to keep it clean.

Removing the Bandage

Removing the tattoo wrap as soon as possible promotes proper healing and prevents infection. After four to five days, carefully remove the bandage using clean hands. Start by loosening an edge and remove it safely under warm water. Rounding off the edges of the tattoo beforehand can help prevent excessive adhesive pulling off during removal.

Cleaning the Area

Cleansing the tattooed area after removing the wrap is crucial for healing. Mix lukewarm water with gentle antibacterial soap and use your hand to rub the surrounding areas of the tattoo gently. Avoid using any other items like washcloths. If there is excess ink, blood, or plasma, gently scrub it off to initiate scabbing and prevent thick scabs from forming over time. Proper cleaning is essential for true healing.
