Tattoo Skin Care Tips

Cleanse

– After removing the Saniderm bandage, wash your new tattoo twice daily with unscented antibacterial soap.

– Dry the tattoo and apply a fragrance-free, alcohol-free ointment or lotion designed for Tattoos to protect and moisturize the skin.

– Use a mild moisturizer like Badger Tattoo Balm or Hustle Butter instead of petroleum jelly, as it can irritate and hinder healing.

Moisturize

– Moisturizing is crucial for proper tattoo care.

– Choose a gentle and unscented moisturizer that does not contain harsh chemicals or fragrances.

– Apply moisturizer at least twice daily to prevent cracking, flaking, itching, and infection.

– Avoid overhydration, as excessive moisturizer can lead to heavy scabbing and damage the tattoo.

Protect

– After removing the initial bandage, apply a protective ointment or salve on top of the fresh ink.

– Within 24 hours of getting a tattoo, apply a thick protective balm or salve, preferably with shea butter and natural preservatives.

– Avoid petroleum-based products that may fade the ink over time.

– Protect your tattoo from UVA/UVB sun rays by using sunscreen outdoors.

– Minimize skin-to-skin contact and regularly wash your hands to prevent bacterial or viral infections.

Repair

– Treat your tattoo like a wound and follow proper healing practices.

– Cleanse, moisturize, and apply ointment regularly to nurture the healing process.

– Don’t pick at scabs; allow them to fall off naturally.

– Avoid petroleum jelly-based products as they slow down the healing process.
