How to Keep a Tattoo Hot

After getting a tattoo, the initial days can often be very uncomfortable and painful, with signs like redness, swelling, and fluid leakage.

1. You’re Overworking Your Skin

Tattooing requires proper care before and after healing to avoid skin irritations and peeling. Overworking tattoos can cause them to look red, angry, and patchy. Avoid overly aggressive aftercare as it can lead to inflammation, cracking, and infection.

2. You’re Getting an Infection

If your tattoo feels hot to the touch, it might be infected. Seek medical advice if you notice these symptoms, as tattoo infections can result in severe complications if left untreated. Watch for abnormal or persistent scabbing, discharge, and odor, which could indicate an infection. Extreme conditions should be treated in an emergency room.

3. You’re Getting an Allergy

Some individuals may be allergic to tattoo ingredients like pigments, dyes, and metallic substances. This can result in itchy, raised bumps or skin rashes at or near the tattoo site. Allergic reactions can be managed with steroid ointments and medications a dermatologist prescribes.

4. You’re Getting a Staph Infection

Staph infections – in severe cases, they can lead to sepsis or Toxic Shock Syndrome. Staph infections usually require antibiotics; some forms may need longer treatments with specific antibiotics. Always seek medical attention for proper diagnosis and treatment.
