How to Avoid Getting a Rash Around Tattoo

Irritation

To minimize irritation, regularly clean and disinfect the area around your tattoo and use a moisturizing product to reduce inflammation. If irritation persists, seek medical advice, and you may be prescribed antibiotics.

Infection

After getting a tattoo, redness and swelling at the site are expected for up to 48 hours. Prolonged or worsening redness and swelling could indicate an infection, which needs prompt attention. Conditions can be treated with long-term antibiotic therapy.

Sunburn

Sunburn can cause additional irritation and delay the healing process of a tattoo. If sunburn symptoms persist, consult a dermatologist for more vital medication or topical treatments like steroid cream.

Limiting sun exposure for at least 12 weeks after getting a tattoo is recommended to allow proper healing. Avoid direct sunlight until the healing process is complete, and follow any instructions your tattoo artist provides.
