How to Apply for a Permanent Marker Tattoo

Choosing Your Design

When creating a permanent marker tattoo, choosing the design for your tattoo is essential. Selecting a straightforward method will make the process easier for you.

Tracing Paper

Tracing paper is a valuable tool for artists at all skill levels. It can transfer sketches onto different types of writing and check for accuracy in your work. Tracing paper comes in various sizes and thicknesses, making it versatile.

Place tracing paper over the image you want to duplicate and secure them together using low-tack tape or paper clips. Trace over the image using a pencil, drawing thick lines for clarity.

Transferring the Sketch onto the Skin

Once your sketch is complete, you can transfer stencil lotion or stick deodorant onto the customer’s skin. The transferred image should stay in place until it is washed off. For different colors, create another stencil and repeat the process.

Gel Deodorant

If you prefer using a marker with gel deodorant for temporary tattoos, be aware that alcohol in the deodorant could dry out your skin. Choose a fragrance-free deodorant for the best results.

Before applying the tattoo, clean the designated area using cleansing wipes or rubbing alcohol. Have disposable gloves, solid stick deodorant, and your chosen stencil ready.

After applying deodorant and placing your drawing, wait a minute to ensure accurate image transfer. Use baby powder to set the image and keep it in place, preventing smudging or lifting. Baby powder also helps absorb excess moisture.

Sharpie

When using Sharpies for temporary tattoos, it is generally safe if you choose non-toxic varieties. Sharpie ink only goes into the outermost layers of the skin and can be broken down and erased over time with natural oils and sweat. However, avoid markers with neurotoxic xylene, such as King Size, Magnum, and Touch-Up options.

If you need to remove Sharpie marks from your skin, rubbing alcohol is effective. If rubbing alcohol is unavailable, talc or baby powder can also help remove the ink.

Baby Powder

If you want to prolong the duration of a temporary marker tattoo, using baby powder is an efficient method. You will need baby powder/talcum powder and hairspray.

Start by degreasing the area where you plan to draw the tattoo. Place your tattoo drawing onto your skin and press firmly for one minute before removing the paper. Check the result and address any discrepancies promptly.

Use baby powder to set the tattoo, prevent fading or smudging, and absorb excess moisture. This will keep smeared Tattoos at bay. Make sure to use a non-toxic Sharpie marker or markers safe for skin contact, eyes, and inhalation by children. Dust the tattoo with baby powder or talcum powder for secure adhesion.
