Is Your New Tattoo Peeling?

1. Don’t Scratch

During the healing process of your new tattoo, it’s normal for it to peel. However, it’s important not to scratch it, as this can introduce bacteria and lead to infection or scarring.

2. Don’t Wash

Avoid washing your new tattoo, even if it’s peeling. Washing can trap bacteria and prolong the healing time.

3. Don’t Rub

Once your tattoo starts peeling, avoid touching, rubbing, or pulling at it. This can cause the ink to become unsettled and appear unevenly. Instead, apply a water-based moisturizer with no dye or perfume to prevent excessive drying and cracking of the peeling skin.

4. Don’t Bleed

Peeling is a natural part of the healing process, as your skin sheds dead cells. Although it may be alarming to see large flakes of tattooed skin peeling away, it’s usually nothing to worry about. Avoid activities that bleed your tattoo, such as swimming or tanning.

5. Don’t Go Outside

Protect your new tattoo from sunlight by avoiding direct exposure until it has fully healed. Sunlight can fade the ink and increase the risk of blisters and infections during peeling. Cover your tattoo with long sleeves and a hat to shield it from the sun if you need to go outside.

Remember, peeling and flaking the tattoo is a normal part of the healing process, as your body removes dead skin.
