Lifting Weights After Tattoo

The timing for lifting weights after a tattoo depends on the size and location of your tattoo. Generally, it is advisable to wait 48 hours between exercise sessions.

Don’t Overdo It

Caution is necessary when lifting weights after getting a tattoo. Too much exercise can cause popping and bleeding from the healing tattoo. Sticking to a consistent routine of stretching, walking, and mild weight training is the best way to protect against this issue.

Don’t Sweat It

Sweating is a natural part of the healing process for tattoos. It helps regulate body temperature. However, strenuous workouts should be avoided for at least 48 hours after getting a tattoo. Light exercises, walking, and stretching are recommended during this time.

Don’t Rub It

New ink needs time to set correctly before vigorous physical activity. Rubbing against clothing or exercise equipment can irritate and fade the tattoo. Waiting 48-72 hours or until the sensation of the new tattoo disappears thoroughly is advised. Loose-fitting clothing should be worn to minimize rubbing.

Don’t Go Outside

Intense workouts should be avoided until the tattoo fully recovers to prevent sweat from carrying bacteria into the wound. Swimming and excessive sun exposure should also be avoided to prevent infection and fading.
