How to Know If Your Tattoo is Fully Healed

1. No more scabbing

Your tattoo should have healed completely and should no longer be scabbing. Scabbing is a natural part of the healing process and helps close off the top layer of skin layers to decrease the risk of infection. Regularly cleanse the wound site using hypoallergenic, fragrance-free soap with distilled water. Avoid scratching the tattoo to prevent disruption of the healing process.

2. No more itching

After the scabs have sloughed away, your skin should be restored, and itching should subside. If itching persists, consult your physician, as it could be an allergic reaction to tattoo ink or used products. Use light, fragrance-free lotion or recommended aftercare ointment to combat itching.

3. No more redness

Redness and oozing may continue for several days after getting tattooed but should gradually fade. Use high-SPF sunscreen to protect against color fading in direct sunlight.

4. No more peeling

Scabs should be dry and flaky but not peel away in large chunks. Avoid picking at your tattoo to prevent infection and alterations to the design. Keep the tattoo moisturized with non-comedogenic moisturizers and avoid excessive sun exposure to maintain optimal healing conditions and prevent color fading.
