Small Tattoo Aftercare Tips

Cleanse Your Tattoo

If you recently got a small tattoo, the correct aftercare must be followed to ensure proper healing of both ink and skin around it. Cleanse your tattoo using antibacterial soap and warm water. Pat it dry using a clean paper towel.

Keep It Clean

Tattoos are open wounds requiring extra special care to stay clean and protected. Use mild antibacterial soap or unscented, fragrance-free antibacterial liquid such as Dettol or Simple to clean your tattoo. Then, apply a thin, fragrance-free, antibacterial moisturizer for extra hygiene. Small tattoos require extra care in terms of hygiene.

Moisturize

Keeping your skin moisturized is essential for proper tattoo aftercare. It keeps the colors looking vibrant, prevents scabbing and fading, and prevents scarring and peeling of ink. Apply a thin layer of wound-safe lotion or moisturizing ointment explicitly formulated for tattoos.

Apply Sunscreen

Protecting your tattoo from UVA rays is crucial to keeping it looking its best. UVA rays can cause ink to fade or blur, discolorations, blotchy colors, and more. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen developed explicitly for tattooed skin. Apply it without leaving behind a thick residue or sticky feeling. Apply sunscreen daily to protect against skin cancer and premature aging.

Don’t Pick

Avoid touching your tattooed skin for the first few days to prevent damage. Keep your hands moisturized to ensure the longevity of your tattoo. Protect your new ink from sun exposure by wearing a cap or visor. Consider purchasing an outdoor-ready hat with a peak.
